Food And Wine Thus Far

A photo drop of my Epcot Food and Wine Festival excursions thus far.
Double rainbows on the way into the parks!
Sporting my Magic Band with the Small World cover, an Argento Alchemy original silver and braided silk bracelet, a silk thread friendship bracelet (that I share with my Mom actually) from J Crew's past seasons, and my freshly loaded food and wine bracelet. You load it up with money so you can just hold it up and have it scanned. No fumbling with wallets which you would otherwise do a lot. It also helps keep you on budget, when the money you loaded is gone... You're done!
Love walking past the Dance Hall on the way into Epcot... memories...
Sister shot.
And because someone was nice enough to offer to take a photo of the three of us, Allen got in on the action too.
Different Epcot trip with other family members this time. :)
The view out the top floor windows of the American Pavillion in the Chase Banking members lounge. Just flash your bank card and your in! You'll enjoy a free quirky soda extravaganza, access to a place you never normally get to, A/C, nice restrooms, and free charging stations for your electronics.
Another view shot overlooking the concert stage with Spaceship Earth in the distance.
Spaceship Earth.
The Brazil stand plays lively music and is cheerful even on the rainiest of days.
The "banks" of the French Pavillion overlooking the lagoon and the Morrocan, Japanese, American, and Italian pavilloins (respectively when going counter-clockwise).
Playing with the viewers.
Aaah, Paris...

And a lovely lit night shot for good measure.

Things Lately

Fall things...
Autumn quotes...
Football! Go Steelers! (Also, Bear down Bears!)
Florida... Love it here!

Siblings doing funny things with your phone...

Coffee and calorie free macarons.

Great reads.

Puppy!

Festive Fall.

New collars.

Good vet trips.

Westie and Fox tights from Anthro! (Yes, I am officially a crazy dog lady. I bought the Westie pair because of my pup and the foxes because Westies were bred to hunt them... :0 No, I don't hunt, but they're cute and Westie related in my head soooo...)

Back To School: Studio Work

My Fabrications course is going well so far and I'm really enjoying it!
I'm learning so much!
Both my teacher and my classmates are so awesome and inspirational!
Since a lot of the work we do is rather unglamorous (I smell like machinery and oil when I leave, lol) our studio is reflective of that. It's real, not aesthetically pleasing but not un-so either. We work at jeweler's benches and get to "play" with loads of awesome tools!
This rather blurry shot (sorry) shows our torch station where things get hot and also awesome.
Here's the sketches I did for my current project: an Art Deco inspired pendant.
In the baggy above is hematite cabochon that I'm going to bezel set on my piece and the square is actually sterling silver (my preferred material) in sheet metal form.
We trace the deign onto tracing paper and glue it down to the sheet metal.
Then we very slowly and patiently saw the design out.
P.S., this glue? Fantastic!
I don't want to fall behind in class (I'm pretty fresh to most of the techniques and everyone else is rather advanced.) so I had lots of homework to do.
I don't have a bench yet but an old Ikea table works for now.
Here are my parts all cut out. They still need a LOT of work!
Lots of filing and soldering yet do!

I love how as you work you end up covered in teeny tiny sparkling metal specs that glimmer and glitter!

Incidentally, you sweep that precious stuff up and save it! All "scrap" can be re-melted and re-used, it's still rather valuable. You save money and are environmentally responsible at the same time. I'm a big fan of both!

Pink On Parade: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so first off:

Go get screened!

Do your monthly self exams!

Keep up to date on your health care!

Eat healthy!

Exercise!

And harass your loved ones to do the same!

All of these things really do save lives!

For more info available on a national scale please go to:

National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.

Or

You could help save a loved one or even yourself!

Let's be brave and join the fight to stop this terrible disease!

It's also important to note that breast cancer can affect the men in your life as well as the women so everyone keep up with your check ups!

To help raise money and awareness my family and I joined my mother's team (Treasured Chests) in Celebration Hospital's Breast Cancer Walk: Pink On Parade.

On September 28th you could walk or run three miles (I totally walked, lol) with tons of inspirational men, women, and children and in the process have fun fighting for a fantastic cause!

(It started bright and early so we all look super tired in our pics. I had to wake up extra early to drive the 40 minutes down but it was totally worth it!)

Even the sunrise supported us with a lovely showing of pink.
It was a hot but gorgeous start to the day.
My brother and his wife even did pink in their beard and hair, respectively of course. And my sister sported some pink ribbon face painting.
As did my Dad and Mom.
We all wore matching pink shirts with a message and the hospital handed out water, pink pinwheels (note my sister's hair) and lots of other pink paraphernalia was available for purchase to support the cause both before and after the walk. They even hosted a dance party to warm up before we started!

This marching band was a great surprise.

It was an awesome and fun community supported event even in its inaugural walk!

If your local to central Florida and are interested in joining next year keep an eye on this site: Pink On Parade.

Stay healthy and stay strong!

Kisses,

K

Back To School

Last week I started taking a Jewelry Fabrication (i.e., metal smithing) course at the Maitland Art and Art History Society and so far I'm really enjoying it!
I'm also enjoying some of the beautiful grounds there. The society itself is a conglomeration of various historical buildings, art studios, and historical paraphernalia that have all come together to create one awesome group.
And I believe the gardens near the studios are quite lovely, so I thought I'd share one pics.
This particular garden is walled in and has buildings bordering the sides.
There's a lovely little lilly pond right next to the buildings.
And all the stucco and tile work is very intricate and so lovely.

I'm also a big fan of all the blue and turquoise accents amidst the white stucco, terracota, and green expanses.
So pretty.
It almost feels like you've stumbled upon a secret garden.

It's the perfect spot to relax with a cup of coffee before heading into the studio for some hard work and education.

It's also a great spot to read a book.

And it's definitely a little central Florida gem! If you're ever nearby I recommend popping in for a bit!

K
