I've Been Everywhere...

Not really, but it's a really catchy song...

Any rate, I thought I would continue to share the places I've been to that I've really enjoyed in the past or thought were neat and worth sharing but under this title from now on.* Now on with the post!

So, some people hate Andrew Carnegie. And some people are fans...But, one thing you can't help being a fan of, though, was his building/ funding of public libraries around the country.

Pretty awesome methinks! I love books and reading so Carnegie wins major points with me where this topic is concerned...

The Queen Anne branch in Seattle is a lovely small branch he funded. It manages to be super cozy but has lots of special details. Plus it's easy to catch a bus to it if your in the city or to walk just a few blocks from it to some of the most beautiful vistas of the city and the surrounding mountains in Seattle.

 

From the stained glass to the woodworked details, everything is just lovely.

 

Plus, you can't fault a beautiful place that supports and brings the community together... And I love all the pretty trees surrounding it! If your in Seattle and looking for a cozy place to dry off, use some wifi, and enjoy a good book this is your place! Not to mention that Upper Queen Anne has awesome food, "How to Cook A Wolf**," anyone?

Throwback Thursday: Summer Edition

School is back in session and that makes me feel nostalgic for the summer. Since I wasn't blogging this summer I decided Thursdays were a good day to take a little trip down memory lane...

Before we moved from Seattle I finally had a chance to eat at this Mexican restaurant called The Boathouse down on Lake Washington by the University of Washington campus that everyone was always talking about. The sun was shining and the place was packed!

It wasn't the more authentic Mexican that I'm typically used to but nevertheless it was a tasty American take. Everything from the tortillas and chips to the salsa was housemade.

I ordered a chicken burrito and chose some tasty chipotle salsa then the Husband and I stalked a table.

Once seated, we sat back and enjoyed the kind of breezy view you only get with a Seattle summer.

Friendship and Succulents

Today I find myself really missing my beautiful friend who made me this beautiful basket of succulents.

 

We've both been going through some hard times lately and I miss how our laughter would fill the room. It always cheered me up.

Even though we didn't get to see each other often as we'd have liked when I lived in Seattle (chronic illness can be a bisnitch) just knowing she was a drive away was comforting.

Now that I live across the continent from her I'm feeling the withdrawal. So I'm watering my birthday succulent and smiling while sending her a shout out. Lady, I miss you! Darn these stupid time zones and miles... I'm sending you love, laughter, and smiles on the internets instead.

Feels Like Home To Me

I'm always on the hunt for cool, quirky, and fun furniture and accessories to get for our (currently nonexistent*) house.

Plus I always lurve anything science-y. Rocks, barometers, Da Vinci thermometers... They just look awesome and are functionally cool to boot. J'adore!

So when I came across this radiometer on the Canoe website (a cool store in Portland, OR) I knew it was one for my dream home archives. Yes, please!

" The radiometer is an instructive object which demonstrates the scientific theory of converting natural light into energy. Powered only by light itself, it will spin slowly in low light conditions, furiously in direct sunlight or well-lit rooms up to 2,000 revolutions per minute. It remains unresponsive to fluorescent light. Science lesson aside, this blown glass radiometer functions as an engaging and sculptural object in its own right. Made in Germany."

Just think of the fun we could have watching it spin and spin while maniacally laughing about the wealth of natural sunlight in the state of Florida after living with a dearth of it in Seattle for so long!

Aaaah, good times people, good times...

Crazy aside though, it's just a super cool objet d'art that I'd really enjoy having around. Do you like incorporating a little science into your home?

Ch ch ch Changes

So I'm pretty sure I fell off the edge of the internets... Beware there be dragons here...

 

My electronic paraphernalia has been prone to fits of disfunctionality on the regular making it über hard to post and life has been nuts.

 

Amongst the many changes:

My cousin who should have turned 30 first, died this year right before his birthday.

 

I flew to FL for my youngest brother's wedding to both participate and assist in its execution. He is only 24 ya'll. Crazy love, crazy stress, crazy fun!

 

Flew back to Seattle for my hubs graduation. My husband finally finished his Anesthesia residency program after four years!

 

I turned 30! on July 2! (Eeep!)

 

We said goodbye to all our friends and moved from Seattle back to... FL! For my husbands new job in.... da da da dA! Tiny Tavares, FL. Culture shock much? I think yes.

 

We are currently still homeless (i.e. crashing with my parents an hour away in Orlando) while trying to find suitable living up in the middle of nowhere. Are we fussy? But of course. Where's my Staples easy button?

 

My parents then moved right after we moved to FL, while we're crashing with them. Their new house is awesome but totally in a stressful state of moving disarray. (Plus, didn't we just do the moving truck and boxes thing a couple weeks ago? Yes, yes we did...)

 

Also, my parents household currently consists of: my parents, my ill elderly Grandmother, my youngest brother, his wife, my husband, me,and their dog. I'm pretty sure at this point in their life that list should be significantly shorter. But it's not and they're super awesome for allowing all the crazy!

 

(Suitcase life is grand and all but I want all my sh** back out of storage!)

 

Also, being car-less in Chicago and Seattle was easy. In FL? Not so much...

 

Positive stuff, they rented out our old place for August so we got August rent $ back!

 

We're going to be insured and making dolla dolla bills again (we had nada for the month of July b/c no one worked for the month of July. There was just oodles of medical boards studying going on.)

 

And... We have a three day weekend coming up so we're heading down to the Vinoy in St. Pete to kick off our shoes and relax couple style. So I did my nails in an attempt to pretty it up again and hold on to the last bit o' summer.

 

So... That's the gist. Got it all? It's been one heck of a crazy, crappy, and sometimes awesome year... I'm looking forward to things settling again. I'll be posting re-cap stuff with photos as able and hopefully some new new stuff soon too.

Spring Has Sprung In Seattle/ I'm Back

So it looks like I've returned home to Seattle just in time for the start of spring!

Just look at the blue sunny sky above the monorail and needle today! Gorgeous!

The first bright spot in any of the gardens around town.

Super cool bark naturally curling up and peeling off a tree. Yes, even tree bark is ready for warm weather and sun around here!

And the best part:

Some of the cherry blossoms have started blooming! Sooo gorgeous! Before you know it all of Seattle and it's surrounding suburbs will be filled with blooming cherry blossoms in the air and daffodils on the ground! Love.

Parting shot. (Though probably not my last this spring since this will be my final Seattle spring to enjoy them blooming before the move! I promise I'll say more about it as soon as I can.)

Wanderlust Wednesday

Today I give you Russia.

Siberia to be specific, Lake Baikal to be most specific.

Hear me out: Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world and despite the extreme cold the area is teeming with all sorts of life! It's a fascinating place and the nerd in me tortures the Husband by forcing him to watch most nature documentaries we come across and all water related nature documentaries... (Just ask him about Nature: A Duckumentary.) It looks harsh but so stunning on the screen. Any rate, how gorgeous are these unique coral formations in the lake?

Wouldn't it be a dream to see them? Of course you'd have to bundle up like nanook of the north but I think it'd be worth it. (This is even easier to say while I'm visiting in sunny Florida, ha! Sorry Seattle...)

Would you go to Siberia given the chance? It's looks stunning!

On The Road Again

I'm on my way to Florida for my sister in law to be's wedding shower (More to come on that later).

Flying cross continental United States always takes forever and is not my favorite... But I love both places and I'm fortunate enough to go so... If only I look as chic and comfy as the gorgeous model above. It's a trifecta of gorgeous: gorgeous car, girl, and place.

Belated Valentine's Date

Last week the Husband and I finally got to have our belated Valentine's date (He's been working a lot of long hours lately). We exchanged presents in the morning and spent the day at the Seattle Aquarium, wandered around the market, and enjoyed the sunshine (more on those later).

For lunch I treated him to one of our favorite Seattle treasures: Lowell's. We tried it for the first time over four years ago when we were apartment scouting prior to our move out here.

It's a local institution and the fish is deliciously fresh and local. (The Dungeness crab Lowell's Rolls are insanely good!) Normally it's shoulder to shoulder on all three floors of the restaurant but the market was slow and it was almost entirely empty on the first floor so I took the opportunity to take a few pics and linger with my love.

Especially since it might be our last chance to enjoy it. With the Husband's super busy schedule before we move in July (Oh yeah, we're moving!), my brother's wedding in June, and how insane the market gets end of spring/ early summer the odds are not in our favor.

I had a super yummy salmon sandwich! So fresh and delicious! All the accompanying accoutrements were just as good too: freshly baked panini bun, crisp local veggies, killer aioli sauce, and some of the best french fries around... Mmm!

(The Husband was all sunlit smiles.)

Husband threw me for a loop when he ordered the pulled pork sammy, we've never bothered to order anything but seafood there before, but it proved to delectable too.

(The view complete with piers and docks on the sound downtown. And including... Sunshine! Hooray for sunshine in Seattle!)

(Seattle's new ferris wheel. They lit it up pink with hearts that swirled and changed sizes for Valentines Day, so fun!)

(Me soaking up some sun in all my Seattle layers. It was chilly out thbrrr! Note me proudly wearing the sea otter sticker the aquarium gave me for filling out a survey, I lurve sea otters! Sooo cute! Getting people to fill those things out sucks so I did one to help out.)

If you're ever in the market you should stop in for a bite, you won't be disappointed!

Only Rainbows After Rain

We saw four (four!) different rainbows on the way to drop Husband off to work tonight. Good omen? I think yes! Rainbows are promises and reminders that good things are yet to come, no matter what it's like now. So I'm sharing these good things with you!

Yes, Please!

Shopbop's newest The Hit List had so many cute things that made me say "Yes, please!" that I decided to share my faves.

I'm not usually attracted to so many long pant options but I just liked so many. Especially the coated black jeans, comfort and style!

Aren't all the dresses so much fun? I'm excited to see more of the windopane print that's on the skirt at the left. And I always love me a tweedy looking coat and accessories!
